25 August 2012–One side of the bracket completed today as the Southern Colorado Pirates advanced to the MSBL of Southern Colorado finals by beating the Angels 17-5 today in a rematch of the 2011 finals game at John Metcalf Park. The Angels took an early lead in the top of the 1st when Frank Vaughn hit a solo shot in left center field putting the Angels up 1-0. The Pirates came back in the bottom of the 2nd when Russ Mannix scored. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Pirates continued to build on their lead scoring 4 runs on a single by Mannix, and double by Justin Wood, and another single by Drew Downey. The Angels faught back in the top of the 5th by scoring 4 runs with doubles by Behan, Hendrix, and Goldberg. In the bottom of the 5th, the Pirates fired back with 7 runs supported by a grand slam by DJ Johnson (player of the game with 4 RBIs, 2-3, HR, Walk, and a SAC). Then in the bottom of the 6th, the Pirates continued to build on their lead with 5 more runs on6 hits in the inning. The winning pitcher was Tony Conklin, who now has a league leading 7 wins on the season.
26 August 2012–The second round play continued at Metcalf Park today with the Bombers and the Carson Braves facing off at 12pm. The Braves jumped out to a 1-0 lead but the Bombers came back in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game. In the top of the 5th, the Braves took a 3-1 lead and held it till the bottom of the 9th.
The Bombers staged a comeback by scoring and having the tieing run on second base with 1 out. Victor Pulido came in relief after Nick Miller pitched 8 1/3 innings keeping the Bombers at bay. Eric Linberg came up to the plate with the ability to win the game with one swing of the bat. But Pulido sat him down with a strikeout and now faced Chad Baumann. Baumann hits a line drive to the right fielders who charged hard and made a shoe string catch to end the game. Miller got the win, Pulido got the save, and Mike Simpson got the loss.
The Orioles faced off with the Red Sox at 3pm. The Red Sox beat the Orioles 18-10.
The MSBL championship game was played on 9 September between the Carson Braves and the Southern Colorado Pirates at Memorial Park’s Spurgeon Field where the Pirates beat the Braves 7-4. The Pirates jumped out in the bottom of the first with a 1-0 lead. The Braves fired back in the top of the 3rd with 3 runs to take the lead. In the next inning, the Pirates fired back with 6 runs and stayed in front for the rest of the game securing its first championship title.
